Student Conductor (Symphony) - THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2017-2018
Student Conductor (Sinfonia)
Student Conductor (Sinfonietta)
CYOSC has three positions available for college students who wish to obtain conducting and rehearsal experience in front of a student ensemble. The Student Conductor has the opportunity to select, rehearse, and perform repertoire with two of our orchestras during the concert season, and receives coaching in ensemble and conducting skills.
Over the years, we have provided valuable initial conducting training for young musicians preparing for careers as school and youth organization band and orchestra directors, and our graduates include directors of major school programs and youth orchestras throughout the United States.
Minimum Qualifications: currently enrolled in a B.M. or B.A. program in music performance and/or education. We also welcome recent graduates who need more podium experience. Symphony applicants should be proficient on a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument, while Sinfonia and Sinfonietta applicants should be proficient on a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or double bass). No previous ensemble directing experience is required.
To apply to participate, please send a brief letter of interest by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and include your current resume and two references (one of which should be your current private instrumental music teacher).
Accepted applicants are given a full fellowship for the duration of the concert season, and pay no fees to participate.
