Programs

While our in-person rehearsals for Youth Orchestra Ensembles are on hold until the pandemic passes, we are pleased to continue offering the following programs in a distance learning format to engage young musicians throughout Orange County at this time:
  • Academy Program for Preschool through Grade 4 violinists
  • Community Service Program for student volunteers in Grades 9-12
  • Remote Ensemble Program for all instrumentalists in Grades 5-12 with previous band or orchestra experience

Academy Program
Spring Semester 2021 Tuition: $150
The Academy is the foundational education program of Community Youth Orchestra of Southern California, providing a weekly group class experience for string students in Preschool/Pre-K up through Grade 4 that incorporates elements of Suzuki, Dalcroze, Kodaly, and other popular early childhood music education methods. A wide range of instructional tools, including newly-developed distance learning technologies, are incorporated into the curriculum to best support students and their parents.

Community Service Program
Scholarship Supported
In collaboration with our Academy Program, the CSP is open to motivated high school students (Grades 9-12) who are interested in pursuing skill development in string pedagogy and early childhood music engagement under the direction of faculty mentors. CSP volunteers work side-by-side with Preschool through Grade 3 students in a partnership that sees them supporting the same group of students throughout the concert season, serving as a role model for our youngest musicians.

Remote Ensemble Program
Spring Semester 2021 Tuition: $150
For student instrumentalists in Grades 5-12 who play string, woodwind, brass, or percussion and have previous ensemble experience in band or orchestra, our Remote Orchestra offers score study, instrumental sectionals, and sight-reading of major symphony works from the popular favorites to gems by underrepresented composers throughout the ages, and exploration of current soundtracks for movies, television, animation, and video games. This is a temporary program offered in lieu of our in-person ensembles to continue student music ensemble instruction and social interaction during the pandemic.
