July 2018: We are heartbroken to share with you that Justin has passed away. While we develop a program to recognize Justin's spirit and legacy in our orchestra, we ask that you keep his family in your thoughts at this time.
One of our Symphony students who has been with the orchestra for a number of years has recently entered into a challenging medical situation, beginning a fight against an aggressive brain cancer. We hope that you will find a minute to check out his story, which has been lovingly documented by his older brother Clemente, one of our volunteer teachers in the orchestra. In an age where the cost of cancer treatment is far beyond the means of most people, any little bit of support helps!
We are so proud of everything Justin has accomplished in his time with CYOSC, and the incredible strength of character that he demonstrates. He was recently provided an opportunity by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and instead of simply thinking about himself, he asked that they provide a string quartet of instruments for his fellow students at the Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center (OCCTAC). The foundation also made it possible for him to attend a concert of and meet the legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles!
