K-4th Grade strings

One of the only string orchestras in Orange County designed specifically for musicians this young, Sinfonietta gives elementary-age players the full ensemble experience — following a conductor, listening across their section, and performing on a real stage.

Students should be able to read basic music and play simple pieces. From there, our experienced staff and dedicated high school mentors take care of the rest. Each week combines ensemble playing with games and hands-on music theory activities — because a full hour of sitting still isn't what young children need, and we know it. It's an environment designed to build skills, confidence, and a genuine love of music all at once.

That approach shows in the results: Sinfonietta is one of our most popular programs, with many students returning season after season.

Sinfonietta Director, Eriko Tsuji

A native of Kyoto, Japan, Eriko came to the US in 2010 to after receiving her bachelor’s degree in violin performance from Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts, to earn her master's at UCLA. She is currently a member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). A certified teacher through The Royal Conservatory of Music, she has coached several students for music competitions and a few of her students have received gold medals from the Royal Conservatory.  For over 10 years Eriko has been working with students of varying ages and levels of musical accomplishment, from early childhood through college level. She has been a member of CYOSC staff as the Academy teacher since the beginning of 2021. When she’s not busy teaching, Eriko enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.
